Ottoman Journeys: Life and Afterlife in Greenwich

About

In 2022, a visitor to the museum collections made a remarkable discovery. A slab of rock, long unidentified and with mysterious etchings, was in fact an Ottoman gravestone dating back to the 18th century.

Since then, Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust have been working with the University of Greenwich, Peace of Cake, and the local Muslim communities to discover the story behind this gravestone, and explore the connections between the Ottoman Empire and our borough today.

Following Eid, come explore a new exhibition spanning three centuries, and enjoy a series of workshops and events celebrating Ottoman history and modern Muslim life in Greenwich.
