Walking Deptford's Legacy of Slavery

About

Walking tours on some of London's oldest streets which highlight the debt the UK owes to the transatlantic trade in enslaved human beings and the fight for its abolition.

MoSaF is a community group and charity established in 2019 to draw attention to the debt our country owes to those whose lives were cut short, or forever ruined, by the transatlantic trade in enslaved human beings. MoSaF Deptford honours their legacy by remembering them on a two hour walk tour through the streets, past the public buildings, through the parks and dockyards beside the River Thames in London.

London's position as the country's first ever slaving port is little recognised. Alongside the grandure of its palaces and squares, or the prosperity of its financial institutions, there runs another story - one which deserves to be heard.

This walk is for anyone interested in old neighbourhoods of London, social or economic history, Black British or Colonial legacies, abolitionism or human enslavement.

The streets of Deptford can be rough and the tour covers quite a lot of ground. Sensible walking shoes are advised as is robust help if you are wheelchair bound.
