About

Founded in 1943 as the Eltham Little Theatre, the Bob Hope Theatre is a community theatre in Eltham in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It’s fully owned and operated by the members of Eltham Little Theatre Company.

Threatened by a lack of funding in 1979, the Theatre membership was almost resigned to closure. That was until the famous British-American entertainer Bob Hope stepped in. ‘Bob’, who was born Leslie Townes Hope in Eltham in 1903, raised £58,000 across the 1980 and 1981 editions of the Bob Hope British Classic Golf Tournament, and the theatre was saved!

Today, membership of this hidden community gem is open to everyone, whether you’re interested in acting, directing, set design, stage- or font-of-house-management or any other facet of theatre life.
