A programme exploring majestic music from the Spanish Renaissance alongside spellbinding works by Cristóbal de Morales and Sebastián de Vivanco

About

The music of the Spanish Renaissance is the focus of this year’s tour from The Sixteen, ‘Lead, Kindly Light’. From sadness to great rejoicing, the wealth of emotion within the music of this time is captured beautifully in selected works by Cristóbal de Morales and Sebastián de Vivanco. These works are complemented by two pieces inspired by the words of St John Henry Newman.

Kerensa Briggs’ new commission explores his call for divine guidance during his time of distress, while James MacMillan provides an emotive setting of Newman’s words ‘Nothing in Vain.’

About The Sixteen
Led by Associate Conductor, Eamonn Dougan, The Sixteen flawlessly combine tonal warmth, rhythmic precision and immaculate intonation. From performing simple medieval hymns to expressing the complex musical and emotional language of contemporary choral compositions, their shows continue to have broad appeal.
