A relaxed riverside watercolour workshop with sunset inspiration

About

Join the Rivershop for a relaxed and inspiring watercolour workshop set by the river at the beautiful Oystercatcher in Greenwich. In this creative session, you’ll explore how watercolour works through the balance of pigment, water, timing, and paper. Using the sunset over Canary Wharf and the Thames as inspiration, you’ll learn how layered washes, wet-on-wet blending, and controlled brushwork can create glowing skies and shimmering reflections.

This beginner-friendly workshop guides you step by step through essential techniques. You’ll discover how paper moisture affects edges, how colour intensity shifts with water ratios, and how transparent layers build depth and light. Clear, easy-to-follow demonstrations will give you the confidence to experiment while understanding how the paint behaves.

During the session, you’ll create your own sunset watercolour inspired by the riverside view. You’ll learn how to mix a simple sunset palette, build skies using soft washes, and suggest reflections on water using gentle horizontal strokes.

All materials are provided, including professional paints, brushes, and high-quality paper. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a finished painting and new skills to continue exploring watercolour at home.

Drinks will be available to purchase from the bar throughout the session.
