About

This class will take inspiration from Giotto's fresco cycle created between 1303-1305 in the Scrovegni Chapel, Padua. Participants will translate sections of the frescoes into geometric abstractions, transcribing the scenes into shapes and modern compositions.

Students will explore the chapel’s distinctive colour palette, with a focus on its rich lapis blues and warm pink-orange tones. Working with gouache - an opaque and versatile medium - they will build layered, balanced compositions with strong visual impact. The class will also introduce basic gilding techniques, allowing students to apply imitation gold leaf to their work and achieve a luminous, radiant finish.
