About

Having marked the 250th Anniversay of England’s beloved Jane Austen in 2025, alongside it’s continuing exhibition ‘Fans in the Age of Jane Austen’, The Fan Museum presents the premiere rehearsed reading of W.A. Drew’s new one act play about Jane Austen & Blackheath resident, E. C. Lefroy.

W.A. Drew, the play’s author, discovered that Lefroy was formally a resident of his actual home at 42, Shooters Hill Road. Through further research he then uncovered both Lefroy’s impressive poetry, prose, and complex life story. A tale comparable to that of his great-grand-aunt, Jane Austen’s, own thwarted love affair. As such  A Gift of Love is a tragi-comedy that throws new light on a poignant hidden history.

The performance will begin promptly in the Orangery at 7:30pm, with carriages at 8:45pm.
